The $90 Medicare Rebate: Who Qualifies? Medicare Advantage Members Are Not Eligible

·About 2 minutes to read

Messages about a $90 Medicare payment have left some people wondering why they do not qualify even though they have Medicare and pay Part B premiums.

The payment has an official basis, but it is not for everyone. The federal government announced a one-time $90 payment in October 2026 to offset Part B premiums for eligible beneficiaries. It is not a recurring monthly benefit.

Who qualifies?

The CMS announcement identifies Original Medicare Part B beneficiaries living in the United States and addresses Medicaid premium assistance and the income-related monthly adjustment amount (IRMAA). Confirm your individual eligibility with Medicare, particularly if either applies to you.

Medicare Advantage members—including those in HMO or PPO plans—are not eligible for this rebate.

People with Medicare Advantage generally still have Parts A and B, but receive coverage differently from Original Medicare. Having a Medicare card or paying a Part B premium alone does not establish eligibility.

When does it arrive? Do you need to apply?

Eligible beneficiaries receive payment automatically under the official arrangements; no separate rebate application is needed.

Most direct deposits were expected on or around October 8, 2026. People without direct deposit receive a paper check at their Medicare mailing address, with some checks arriving later in October.

October 8 is not a guaranteed deadline. Not receiving a payment that day does not, by itself, establish ineligibility.

Qualifying for this rebate does not determine which Medicare coverage is right for you. Consider your doctors, prescriptions, specialist referral requirements and potential annual medical costs.
